Green Woods CEO: All Politics are Local

September 08, 2023

Regardless of changes in federal policies or state leadership, public support for all charter schools still largely depends on local actions and the opinions of people closest to children, commented Jean Wallace, CEO of the Green Woods Charter School in Philadelphia, who was among 69 charter-school educators who attended Charter Schools: Practices for High Performance at Harvard University in July.

Wallace said all levels of government and school leadership must align for charter schools to be successful.

"I think all politics are local," Wallace said, noting that the federal government needs to follow up any push with funding at the state level. "I'd like to see us work together better because then there can be a change."

Green Woods charter school opened in 2002. The school curriculum revolves around "student learning about the natural world, their place in it, and their responsibility to it," according to the school Web site.
